Sasan Gir National Park is situated in peninsular state of Gujarat, India. The park covers an area of square 1412 km. It is the sole home of Asiatic lions. It is one of the protected areas containing diverse species of flora and fauna. The park is mainly dominated with semi evergreen and mixed deciduous forest.

Flora and Fauna in the Park
Large populations of Asiatic lions dwell in the park. The park also has significant population of leopards. In fact, Gir is known to home maximum numbers of leopards in India. Sambar, deer, chital, nilgai, four-horned antelope, chinkara, wild boar, langur monkey, jackal, and hyena are common animals found in the park. Park also has good numbers of bird species including paradise flycatcher, bonneli's eagle, crested serpent, woodpeckers flamingo etc.

The park has good numbers of teak, banyan and acacia tress. Species like the Jambu, Karanj, Umro, Vad, Kalam, Charal, Sirus and Amli are also found here. These trees mostly have broad leaves and belong to semi evergreen forests.

Best Time to Visit
Months from November to June are best to visit the park.

Getting There
Nearest airport is Keshod. It is at a distance of 90 Kms. One can easily take flight from Mumbai to Keshod as Keshod itself is not connected to major cities. One can also visit Ahmedabad by train and catch bus from Ahmedabad to reach Gir via Rajkot. Buses are also available from Junagadh and Veraval to Gir.
