Dudhwa National Park
Dudhwa National Park is located in Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It lies on India-Nepal border on the foothills of Himalaya. It covers an area of 680 square km. and was established as wildlife sanctuary in 1958. Later it was declared as national park in 1977 and as tiger reserve in 1988. The park has good population of animals, birds and floral species.
Flora and Fauna in the Park
The park has good population of swamp deer and tigers. The park has more than 100 tigers which is the reason behind popularity of the park. About 37 species of mammals (samber, deer, barking deer, hog deer, rhinoceros, sloth beer, ratel, cats, leopards, etc), and 16 species of reptiles are found in this park.
Dudhwa Park is one of the preferred areas for delighting bird watching. Ducks, goose, hornbills, barbets, cormorants, bulbuls, teal, woodpeckers, bee eaters, kingfishers, owls, cranes, etc are common birds found in the park.
The park has tropical semi-evergreen forest, tropical moist deciduous forest, riparian and swamp forest and dry deciduous forest. Shorea robusta, Terminalis tomentosa, Adina cordifolia, Terminalia belerica, Eugenia jambolana, Dalbergia are the vegetation of the park.
Best Time to Visit
The periods of mid November to mid June and from February to April are best for visiting the park.
Getting There
Nepal is the nearest airport at a distance of 35 kms. In India, Lucknow is the nearest airport. Tourist can hire taxi from airports to the park. The park is also connected by rail route. Dudhwa railway station is at 4 Kms and Palia is at 10 Kms. Palia is connected with major cities. You can get regular buses from Palia to Dudhwa.![]()
